Market Baseline Explained

Understand how Market Baseline uses external market probabilities as a transparent Matrix Sig forecasting method.

Definition

Market Probability is the probability implied by an external prediction market. Market Baseline is a Matrix Sig method that uses that benchmark as its forecast.

What it is

Market Baseline is a Matrix Sig method that uses the current external Market Probability or distribution as its forecast. It gives users a clear benchmark for comparing other forecasts.

Why it is useful

The method is cheap, transparent, and coherent with the complete question structure. It provides a reproducible reference point rather than implying that every Model must invent an independent estimate.

What it cannot do

Market Baseline can inherit market errors, thin liquidity, participant biases, or stale prices. It does not independently discover an informational edge, and Market Probability itself is not a guarantee of the eventual outcome.

Market Probability is not the same label

Market Probability is the external market-implied estimate. Market Baseline is a Matrix Sig Model method that uses that estimate as its forecast. Keeping the terms separate makes the benchmark and the forecasting system easier to understand.
